“There’s always a choice. That’s God’s way, always will be. Your will is still free. Do as you will. There’s no set of leg-irons on you. But… this is what God wants of you.” ― Stephen King, The Stand
Stephen King was certainly right about one thing – there is always a choice. Sure, we are free to choose our actions. We are however, not free to choose the consequences of our actions.
Survival in the modern business world, could well force you to do what the ‘Romans’ do. The ‘Romans’ (competition) in this case seem to move rapidly towards structured strategy in their staff & support processes. Defining strategy for the business has always been considered as core for the business. Unfortunately leaders have always looked at staff functions with “also there” kind of mindset. The need to shape up these costs which usually fall below the gross profit line have hitherto been woefully confined to staff cuts, travel cuts, and sundry curtailment of discretionary spends. These are clearly important initiatives. Cannot be ignored!
Also what cannot be ignored are the opportunities waiting in the wings by creating and following a well-defined Business Process Management strategy. This is not just about processes, it is about effective leadership and business in the new world – and it can influence the famous 3Cs of business success – Cost optimization, Customer experience, and Competitive advantage.
Value attraction is the new law of business. Value here, is clearly beyond price. Create a business case for BPM, have an effective people strategy, technology enable the processes, and select a good partner. And you could be well on the way to not only remain alive and competitive, but grow profitably!
