SECRET TO SUCCESS

Editor’s Note

So, what’s catching the fancy of the world in the past some time? At the individual and social front, it is the new variant of the pandemic, the opening and closing of the borders, limited gathering, and growing cyber-crimes. At the business and corporate level, it is the virtual business deals, the great attrition, new dimensions of as-a-service revolution and the rise of ESG.

None of it was known or expected at the same time, 20 months back. That is the great thing about the future – uncertainty. It is hard to grasp or predict what will happen in the future, and more so after the world has been changed drastically. New and unexpected events have already begun to happen as a result of the global pandemic. Remote work has become more efficient, travel less necessary, people are ‘independently’ social, and technology has completely taken over the world of business.

While on the one hand, technology is making life and business easier and cheaper, on the other it is making the sum of the parts more integrated. No more is there the need to maintain a divisional distinction between the various functions of the enterprise. An intense interconnectivity that can be brought about by the various operative digital apps and tools is far better than any that humans could ever fathom. In addition, the interconnected corporate ‘whole’ is also updatable as one, and can up its ante in tandem. This ability too can be bought about by the digital world perfectly, and much better than the humans acting individually.

While so many things are changing around us, the ultimate focus must remain on leadership. Otherwise said, it is all about the leaders who steer the ship, with their focus on strategy, execution and governance. In days to come, dependency on good leadership will grow in tandem with dependency on cognitive mechanics. Leadership, in its essence, is far beyond just managing people. It is more to do with managing performance, situations, and risks – everything to do with running a business with all challenges on availability of resources and emerging awareness of the ‘new normal’ or worse still, ‘never normal world’.

This edition of Process Edge attempts to bring about a sense of variety and focus that co-exists in the modern world of business as it pertains to technology, leadership and preparing for the future. One conversation brings out the perspective of how the intermingling of advanced technologies and people leadership helped create a world class service organisation. Next we get a view on the importance of being first time right while carrying out complex global transformation programs. Then there is the concept of deploying large-scale tech solutions in a heavy industrial manufacturing unit, while creating a fully integrated, remote accessed network. Another article focusses on new age analytics and its potential to transform the entire business decision making process. We also venture into deployment of inclusivity policies in certain industries, where people are breaking historic stereotypes and excelling professionally at the same time.

We hope that you will find our selection insightful and interesting.
